Twitter, RSS Feeds, Blogs?!?! What are all these things?!?!
I’ve been getting this comment or a variation of that a lot recently. I’ve started doing some unofficial social media consulting in the San Luis Obispo area where I live and to be honest we are so far behind the curve in terms of new media here. So to help out here are 5 very informative, very simple ways to explain social media topics in plain English.
All these videos are from the good people of Common Craft who make the best explanation videos I have ever watched.
- What are blogs? Why are they important?
- What are RSS Feeds? How do they help you save time and distribute content faster?
- What is “Social Media”? How do all these new media websites fit together in the big picture?
- Why is Social Bookmarking, Social? How do you get started with Delicious? What are Tags and how do you use them?
- What are social networking sites? Why sites like Facebook and Linkedin so popular? What can social networking sites do for you?
- What are photo sharing sites like Flickr? What are Tags for and why are these sites social? How can these sites keep your photos safe?
- Finally what is Twitter? I’ve talked about twitter in my previous post: 5 Reasons Why I Use Twitter, but check out this video to see what micro-blogging and twitter is
What videos or websites do you use when trying to explain social media to someone unfamiliar with these tools? Share them in the comments!
