Speaking

I enjoy sharing what I know at conferences and events, here are some I have or will participate in as a speaker or mentor:

My Story

graffiti artNot counting my pogs or pokemon business, I started my first company when I was 16 in LA. At the time I was a graffiti artist (<—check out my work) but instead of drawing on illegal surfaces, I started a design and printing company that created custom designed hats, shirts, guys/girl clothing, and backpacks with two of my friends. After leaving LA to attend Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, my parents told me I needed to focus on getting good grades and just maybe I would get a good paying corporate job that I could work at for the rest of my life.

The plan was to study Finance as an undergrad and get a job at Goldman Sachs, one of the companies I idolized at the time, but it didn’t take long for my plans to turn upside down. In my first month of college I spent all of the money I had saved up in my previous 18 years of life and I spent it all on useless crap I found online. There was absolutely no way I could tell my parents what I did. So, instead of confessing to them, I started a eBay business that employed three of my friends. We made $4,000 per week as a freshman undergrad.

After tasting startup life, there was no turning back for me. Since then I’ve been involved in nine startups focused in several different verticals, including water purification, pop culture media, social networking, and even ran a non-profit. I’ve helped raised over $2.5m dollars for startups I worked with, helped Cal Poly startups take their products to market, I was the managing director of the Cal Poly Business Plan Competition, the Entrepreneur in Residence for Innovation Quest.

I have dedicated my life to spreading the entrepreneurial spirit because I believe that entrepreneurship is more than just starting a company; it’s a lifestyle that produces value in your own personal life, forces you to take charge of your own actions, and is the fastest way to grow and develop as a person.
